LEADERSHIP PROJECT 2019
Each summer, Campus Outreach Greenville hosts a Leadership Project (LP) for students from Clemson University, Presbyterian College, Southern Wesleyan University, Western Carolina University, Wofford College, the University of South Carolina, and USC Upstate.
Each student works a full-time job during the day and participates in bible studies, discipleship groups, evangelistic outreaches, ministry training, and Sunday worship at local churches. During the week, there is also plenty of fellowship, fun, and other social activities.
This demanding, yet challenging schedule creates an ideal environment for students to grow in their relationship with Christ and to develop ministry skills and leadership qualities. For a better idea of what a typical weekly schedule at Leadership Project looks like, click here.
This year’s project is taking place from May 23 to July 11. Leadership Project costs $2000 for the entire summer, covering housing, a project-wide meal each week, weekly project socials, and LP materials. It does not cover other meals or transportation. We encourage students to raise as much of this cost as possible from individual supporters and churches.
One aspect of the Leadership Project’s success comes from requiring students to remain on the project. We know that you love your students and want to be with them as well this summer, so even though your student can’t come see you, you can definitely come and see them. Our Parent’s Weekend activities are designed to give you a taste of what your student is learning and experiencing at the LP as well as for you to meet the Campus Outreach Greenville staff leading the project. We hope you will consider attending this summer!
In an effort to offer a broad church experience, students will rotate between 3 different churches throughout the summer: Cornerstone Baptist Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Palmetto Shores. Each church represents a different denominational perspective with a biblical approach to ministry as well as years of strong relationship with Campus Outreach summer projects. Our desire in this is to expose students to a different church experience than they may be accustomed to without compromising the authority of God’s Word.
Will I be able to pay for project and have money for school from my job during the summer?
Yes, the money a student can earn while working on the LP can cover the costs of the project and leave a little leftover to help towards the upcoming school year, but we suggest all students raising at least a part of the project costs.
Am i responsible for finding a job or internship?
Each student will be required to work a job or internship while they attend the LP. Students are welcome to secure their own job or internship as long as it fits within the project schedule and does not conflict with any policies. Please communicate with your campus staff member and the project director if you decide to secure your own employment. If you do not wish to find a job or internship on your own, Campus Outreach maintains relationships with employers in the Myrtle Beach area and will provide you with a job opportunity through one of our contacts.
Can I leave the project during the summer?
The effectiveness of the Leadership Project comes from consistent and undistracted participation, therefore, the LP Guidelines state that “No out-of-town trips are permitted.” A student’s acceptance to the project may be affected by the need to leave the LP.
What is support raising?
As an LP participant, you have the option of asking individuals, families, and churches to sponsor you during the summer to help pay for the expenses of the project. Raising support can be a great way to cover the costs of the project as well as an opportunity for others participate in your summer experience of growing with the Lord! At the LP retreat in April, you will receive more training on the goals and practical aspects of raising support to help you get started.
